Texas Metal Tanks manufactures both traditional galvanized cisterns and stainless steel cisterns. All tanks are suitable for potable (drinking) water. Every tank is built to order at our Dripping Springs factory using American-made steel, so you’re getting quality construction that’s designed to last for decades.
The Galvanized Steel Cistern
LIFE SPAN: 20-30 years
WARRANTY: 1 year
With almost 90 years of history, the galvanized steel tanks are G-90 grade 20 gauge metal made in the USA. We do not import foreign steel. The top is 22 gauge. After the tank is constructed, a paint / epoxy lining is applied to the interior of the tank to provide a protective barrier between the water and the metal itself. This product is FDA approved for potable (drinking) water applications and is ANSI / NSF 61 certified. Each tank is tested at the factory to ensure that it is watertight.
The Stainless Steel Cistern
LIFE SPAN: 50+ years
WARRANTY: 5 years
We manufacture type 304 stainless steel cisterns at a stainless steel water tank price that reflects the durability and long lifespan of the product. The sidewall and bottom are 20 gauge and the top is 22 gauge, all from domestic, US steel. We use stainless steel rivets in the construction process making them more durable. The tanks utilize a FDA approved NSF 61 certified sealant on the inside. Stainless steel tanks are actually an alloy – the addition of chromium to the steel greatly increases the corrosion resistance of the metal. Stainless steel tanks will generally maintain the same look throughout their lifespan.

Sales Tax: There is no sales tax in Texas for rainwater tanks.

Fittings.
Most tanks take three fittings – an inlet, an outlet, and an overflow. Prices above only include one bulkhead connection for an outlet. All other fittings are optional.
| INLET | Options include 3”or 4”male PVC adapter or a basket. The PVC adapter goes in the side of the tank on the side. Connect 3”or 4”schedule 40 PVC. The basket comes in two sizes, 12” or 16”. This is inserted in the top of the tank near the edge. With a basket, you can spin the top so that the basket is under a downspout. With the basket positioned correctly, secure the top in place. |
| OVER-FLOW | Options include 3” or 4” male PVC adapter. The overflow sticks out about 2”. You can leave it as is, extend it, or run pvc pipe to the ground and direct the overflow as appropriate. |
| OUTLET | Options include 3/4”, 1 1/4”, or 2” PVC bulkhead connection. This watertight seal is threaded. Most tanks 1000 gallons or less get a 3/4” bulkhead. This allows you to screw in a 3/4” spigot. Attach a hose and you can gravity feed the water to your garden or trees. If you are going to pressurize the water with a pump, or may do so in the future, choose an 1 1/4” or 2” bulkhead. You can always reduce it with a bushing. |

Deposit and Ordering
All tank orders require a deposit to begin production. Because every tank is built to order at our Dripping Springs factory, the deposit secures your spot in our production queue and covers initial material costs. The remaining balance is due before delivery or pickup. Give us a call or fill out the Inlet/Outlet Form below to start your order, and we’ll walk you through the deposit amount and payment options based on your specific tank selection.
Delivery:
We can deliver tanks within 250 miles of Drippings Springs on our trailer. We also ship tanks UPS or use a dedicated trailer especially for customers further away. Fees based on distance, quantity and size. For UPS shipments, we can wrap tanks in cardboard and place on a pallet. Be forewarned: shipping is very expensive and can cost as much as the tank, especially for small tanks.
Pick-up:
You may pick-up your tank at our factory in Dripping Springs, TX, where we build complete rainwater harvesting water systems for customers across the state. Pick-up times must be scheduled in advance, and you should bring at least 6 straps – 3 for the tank and 3 for the top. The top is only held on by four screws and tanks do not ship with the top screwed on!
Tanks over 1000 gallons are transported upright and will not fit in a standard pick up. 1000 gallon or less can transport on their side and will fit in a full size pick up, although the tailgate may have to be lowered. Please make sure your tank will fit in your truck / trailer.
