Custom Rainwater Harvesting Water Tanks
Specialty Tanks & Custom Rainwater Tanks
We make more than what’s on the price sheet!
Hardly a week goes by when we don’t get a request for rainwater collection tanks that are not on our price sheet. The fact is, we can actually do a lot more! In fact, many custom rainwater catchment tanks don’t take too much more work to design and fabricate. If there’s a product or size that you don’t see, just ask us, and we might be able to make it happen!
What We Can Make
Tanks can be made from 3’ in diameter to 8.5’ in diameter and up to 11’ 4” tall. Anything larger requires a special permit to transport.
We can also create custom well covers. A well cover is a tank without a bottom and is not sealed or painted. A 3’ door may be added.
Note: At this time we do not recommend tanks be used as swimming pools. Too many sharp edges!

When to Choose a Custom Rainwater Tank
A standard tank works well for many rainwater systems, but some properties need a more specific fit. Custom rainwater harvesting water tanks can be helpful when your available space, roofline, tank placement, or water-use goals do not match a standard size on the price sheet.
Texas Metal Tanks can build custom and specialty tanks in a range of diameters and heights, so it is worth asking if you do not see the exact size you need.
Custom Rainwater Tank Options to Discuss
Here’s what to think about before you reach out to request a custom quote:
- Desired capacity or available footprint
- Diameter and height limits
- Galvanized or stainless steel construction
- Inlet location and size
- Outlet size for hose, gravity-fed use, or future pump setup
- Overflow placement and drainage direction
- Delivery, pickup, or installation needs
Planning the Right Rainwater Catchment Tank Size
Tank size depends on how much roof area feeds the system. You should also consider how you plan to use the water, and how much space you have for the tank itself.
As a rule of thumb, 1 inch of rain on 1,000 square feet of roof area can produce about 600 gallons of water. We recommend planning around a 2” to 3” rain event.
For most custom rainwater tanks, the right choice comes down to balancing capacity with available space, downspout placement, and delivery access. If you’re not sure, reach out, and we’ll explore options together.
